Yes — and a urine test will not detect it. The throat has to be swabbed.CLIA #45D2048957 · CAP #8722734 · Same-day results · Walk-ins welcome
Yes. Gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis and HSV all transmit through oral sex. Pharyngeal gonorrhea is common and usually causes no sore throat, no symptoms, nothing — and it is completely invisible to the urine test that most clinics run.

What can be transmitted, and how it is found
| Infection | Oral transmission | Test |
|---|---|---|
| Gonorrhea | Common; usually asymptomatic in the pharynx | Throat swab, PCR |
| Chlamydia | Possible | Throat swab, PCR |
| Syphilis | Yes — an oral chancre may go unnoticed | Blood serology |
| HSV-1 → genital | Yes — oral herpes can cause genital infection | Lesion PCR (cold-sore exposure) |
| HIV | Lower risk than other routes, not zero | 4th-generation Ag/Ab |
Pharyngeal gonorrhea is a reservoir: silent, untested, and a common source of onward transmission. It is also a driver of antibiotic resistance.
Just tell us by text
Text (713) 832-8892 and say you need throat included. You will not have to explain it at the desk.
We name drugs, never doses. Treatment statements follow CDC guidance; the physician decides what you actually take.
Same day, start to finish. Sample by 1:00 PM → results at 4:30 PM → if treatment is clinically appropriate, a licensed physician in our partner network sees you between 4:30 and 6:00 PM, a few minutes away. That window is reserved for patients tested here, and your slot is held the moment we take your sample — the slot is held, not hunted. On your own, a same-day appointment is nearly impossible; at an urgent care, you wait in the queue. STAT: ~2 hours, sample in by 3:00 PM.
FAQ
- Does a throat swab take long?
- Seconds.
- I have no sore throat. Do I still need it?
- Yes — that is the whole point. Pharyngeal infection is usually silent.
- Is oral sex "safe sex"?
- It is lower-risk for some infections and not at all risk-free for others. Barriers reduce risk.
- Can I be treated the same day?
- Yes, if the result is positive and the physician judges treatment appropriate.
