A negative result is only as good as the test's ability to have found it.CLIA #45D2048957 · CAP #8722734 · Same-day results · Walk-ins welcome
A negative result is reassuring in exactly one situation: the right site was tested, outside the window period, with no antibiotics on board, for an organism that could actually explain your symptoms. Change any one of those and the negative stops meaning what you think it means.

The four ways a negative misleads

ReasonWhat to do
Tested inside the window periodRetest at the correct interval — window-period guide
Wrong collection site (urine only, after oral or anal exposure)Add throat and/or rectal swabs — site guide
Antibiotics taken before the testTell the physician; retiming may be needed
The cause is not an STI at allUTI, BV, dermatologic or urologic causes — the physician looks further

Persistent symptoms with a negative panel is a clinical finding, not a dead end. It means the question was not fully asked.

Same day, start to finish. Sample by 1:00 PM → results at 4:30 PM → if treatment is clinically appropriate, a licensed physician in our partner network sees you between 4:30 and 6:00 PM, a few minutes away. That window is reserved for patients tested here, and your slot is held the moment we take your sample — the slot is held, not hunted. On your own, a same-day appointment is nearly impossible; at an urgent care, you wait in the queue. STAT: ~2 hours, sample in by 3:00 PM.

FAQ

Should I just retest everything?
Not blindly. Tell the physician what happened and when; the right retest is usually narrower and cheaper than repeating the whole panel.
Could my symptoms be a UTI instead?
Very possibly. We run a molecular UTI panel with antibiotic-resistance genes — see UTI testing.
How long should I wait before retesting?
It depends on the pathogen and on when you were exposed. Text us the timeline and we will tell you.
Is it normal to be anxious after a negative?
Extremely. That is why we would rather explain the limits of the test than hand you a clean report and send you home unsettled.
