Should You Get Tested Together Before a New Relationship?

Testing together is a logistics decision, not a trust test.CLIA #45D2048957 · CAP #8722734 · Same-day results · Walk-ins welcome
It is one of the more sensible things two adults can do, and it is far easier to raise as a joint plan than as a request aimed at one person. Most STIs are silent — a baseline is not about suspicion, it is about the fact that neither of you can know from how you feel.

What a sensible baseline looks like
| Test | Why |
|---|---|
| Chlamydia, gonorrhea (all exposed sites) | The two most common bacterial STIs; usually silent |
| Trichomonas, M. genitalium | Common, routinely missed by basic panels |
| Syphilis serology | Rising nationally; latent infection is asymptomatic |
| HIV (4th-generation) | CDC: at least once for everyone 13–64 |
Window periods still apply. A baseline taken a week after a recent exposure is a baseline, not an all-clear.
How to say it
"Let us both go get tested before we stop using condoms" is a sentence that has never ended a good relationship. Walk in together; results go to each of you.
Same day, start to finish. Sample by 1:00 PM → results at 4:30 PM → if treatment is clinically appropriate, a licensed physician in our partner network sees you between 4:30 and 6:00 PM, a few minutes away. That window is reserved for patients tested here, and your slot is held the moment we take your sample — the slot is held, not hunted. On your own, a same-day appointment is nearly impossible; at an urgent care, you wait in the queue. STAT: ~2 hours, sample in by 3:00 PM.
FAQ
- Can we come in together?
- Yes. Walk in Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM.
- Will you tell my partner my results?
- No. Your results are yours.
- What if one of us is positive?
- Then the physician sees you the same evening and treats it. That is a manageable outcome — an undetected infection is not.
- Does this replace condoms immediately?
- Talk it through with the physician, and mind the window period. A test does not retroactively cover exposures inside the window.
