Four questions settle it almost every time. Did it tingle or burn before you could see anything? (Cold sore.) Is it a cluster or a single bump? (Cluster = cold sore.) Is the fluid clear, or is there a white pus head? (Clear = cold sore.) Has it come back in exactly the same spot before? (Cold sore.)
